To begin teaching reading students must first know all their letters and their sounds. The first thing I like to teach is the letter sounds because this is what will help them to sound out words (later they will also need to know the letter names but I start with the sounds first). To introduce and teach letter sounds I use ZooPhonics.
Once students know the sounds the letters make I next introduce the letter names using the lower case letters first. When reading we see more lower case letters than uppercase letters so this is why I make sure to teach these first.
After students know their lower case letters I will also introduce the uppercase (or capital) letters. When I am teaching the uppercase letters I also like to introduce when we use these letters (integrating writing into our lesson).
During the time that we are learning the names of the letters we are still reviewing the sounds that they make. We next will begin to segment/blend CVC (consonant vowel consonant) words. To segment words students are breaking down the sounds they hear. For example, if I show the students a picture of a cat they will "segment" the different sounds /c/ /a/ and /t/. To blend words students will take the sounds and blend them together to make a word.
Once students have learned & reviewed their letters, the sounds they make and have been practicing segmenting/blending CVC words, I use the next steps all together in various order, mixing it up & reviewing/prcaticing constantly during our guided reading time.

ABCs - I have videos from Have Fun Teaching with their version of the ABC song, a "What does the fox say" version of the ABCs as well as a song/video for each letter of the Alphabet. These are great for helping students to learn their ABCs and the sounds that each letter makes!
Zoo Phonics - There are a few different versions of the Zoo Phonics letters, some with descriptions of the names of the letters and a small story to go along, others just saying the letter, sound and hand motions. There is also a song using the Zoo Phonic characters and hand motions.
Sight Words - I have found a video for almost all of the sight words we do in our classroom. Some of these videos are just songs, some are interactive songs and some are short clips using the words. They all teach how to spell and say each sight word. The words are in the order that I teach them and come from the Dolch preprimer and primer lists.
Digraphs - A digraph is a pair of letters that make one sound such as sh, th, ch and wh. I have found some fun videos to teach some of these digraphs!
