Our Daily 5
Every day students go to centers such as: Read to Self, Listen to Reading, Word Work, Work on Writing and Read with Someone.
Here are some activities that we do at these centers to hold us accountable for our work:
Read to Self/Someone:
We read and draw a picture of what we are seeing.
We read and draw a picture of our prediction of what is going to happen next.
We read and draw an extended ending to our stories.
We read and copy words from our text.
We read and make connections to self, other texts, world and media.
We read and compare other stories.
We read and and see how many sight words we can find.
Listen to Reading:
We listen to StorylineOnline.net
We read using our Kids A-Z account where we can listen to a story and then record ourselves reading the story. We can then share it with the teacher or our class!
Word Work:
We practice our Dolch Words by -
Rainbow writing them.
Stamp them.
Use play-doh to make the words.
Write our words in shaving cream.
Use letter beads to make the words.
Make words out of pipe cleaners.
Cut clippings out of magazines to make sight words.
Write words on chalk boards or dry erase boards.
Paint words
Paint words using water on chalk boards or on paper.
Rip little pieces of paper up and glue them down to the word(s).
Hole punch words.
Go on a word hunt in book or in room.
Work on Writing
Make lists, label pictures, write stories or letters/cards using our seasonal words.
Practice our hand writing on chalkboards, white boards or on ABC practice paper.
Free Write in our journals.
Respond to writing prompts.
